INTERMEDIATE STATES is an immersive, site-specific installation of fiberglass, light, sound, and space. Constructed entirely within Wentrcek and Zebulon’s studio from hand-laid fiberglass panels, visits to the installation are restricted to small groups of 8 people. Fully immersed in a glowing, seamless, sulfur-hued cavity, each visitor is provided with a seat that has been wrapped in a resin-impregnated medical cast tape. Panel lights then indicate when a drink has been distributed to each valve.
INTERMEDIATE STATES attempts to create a desensitizing threshold whereby ‘instant nostalgia’ is created through reinterpreted industrial materials.
MATERIALS:
Hand laid fiberglass paneling, enamel paint, silicone, light reducing vinyl, plywood, T-12 fluorescents, panel lights, gas valves, resin impregnated medical cast tape (seating), cotton cast padding (seating), plywood (seating)
